Getting back to my why - Embracing Beauty: A Photographer's Journey to Empower Women

Today was a remarkable day that reaffirmed my passion for photography and the power it has to uplift spirits.

I had the privilege of working with a church nonprofit group, capturing headshots for a women empowerment event. The theme was all about embracing a "New Year, New You" mindset, reminding these incredible women that they are beautiful just as they are.

As I guided them through flattering poses and cheered them on, I felt a deep sense of purpose. There's something magical about witnessing a woman transform from feeling self-conscious to radiating confidence. It’s like watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon. My heart swells with joy when I see someone blossom before my eyes, and this is the essence of why I became a professional photographer.

Throughout my 14 years in this profession, I have encountered countless individuals—from models to busy mothers—who express feelings of insecurity about their appearance. Even those we perceive as confident often reveal their own struggles with self-image. It's a common thread that runs through our society, and it weighs heavily on me.

Today, while working with these women, I was struck by how hard they were on themselves. Despite their laughter and shining personalities, many were preoccupied with their perceived flaws. As an outsider, I saw their beauty and vibrancy shining through, but it saddened me to know that they might not see it in themselves. The joy and authenticity I captured in the photos were often met with disbelief from them, as if they had never seen themselves in such a light.

This realization has been a recurring theme in my career. I've been honored to document life’s milestones—from weddings to funerals—and I’ve seen my images celebrated for the joy they bring. Yet, it hurts to acknowledge that, despite my efforts to uplift others, I have yet to meet someone who is wholly confident in themselves.

I know that life is too short, and I often reflect on how these moments could be the last memories for some of my clients. It motivates me to encourage them to embrace their beauty and take a step in front of the camera, regardless of their insecurities. Everyone deserves to be seen and celebrated.

As I work with clients, I strive to give them an experience that transcends the photo session. I want them to feel empowered and validated. If you’re someone who hesitates to take photos because you don’t feel ready, I encourage you to reach out. The right photographer will help you discover just how stunning you are.

To anyone struggling with self-doubt, please remember that you are worthy just as you are. You don’t need to change anything to deserve to take pictures or to feel confident. Life is fleeting, and we must seize the opportunity to capture beautiful moments.

Reflecting on my own past, I recall a time when I faced bullying and self-doubt. It took time, but I learned to channel those experiences into something positive. I formed connections with others who felt like misfits, creating a community that celebrated our differences. This journey has shaped my approach to photography, where I strive to connect with people on a deeper level.

Ultimately, the core of my work is about people and the stories we share. I want to remind you that your art matters. Whether you’re a photographer or an artist in any field, it's easy to lose sight of your purpose amid the chaos of daily life. Reconnect with your passion, and remember why you started.

If you're feeling lost, I encourage you to revisit your roots and reignite your passion. As I continue this journey, I remain committed to uplifting others and capturing the beauty that exists in every individual. If you’d like to join me on this journey, feel free to reach out on social media. Let’s celebrate the beauty of life together.
